Step 1
Pin front sleeve head to front panel with right sides facing and stitch. Neaten seam edges.
Repeat for opposite sleeve front.
Step 2
Pin back sleeve head to back panel with right sides facing and stitch. Neaten seam edges. Repeat for opposite sleeve back.
Step 3
With right sides facing, stitch both neck bands together at centre back. Press seam open then press entire neck band in half lengthwise.
Step 4
Line up centre seam of neck band with the centre back neckline of cardi. Place a pin here then starting from this point, pin band to cardi, lining up the notches on neckband to the front sleeve seam. Continue pinning band all the way to the bottom point stretching the band on as you pin it down. Repeat on other side of centre back point. Stitch. Neaten seam. Press seam allowance toward cardi.
If you’re making the faux wrap variation, skip to step 11.
Step 5
Neaten one side seam edge from the sleeve to the hem on both front and back.
Step 6
With right sides together, place a pin where front and back underarm seams meet up. Pin down to hemline and out to sleeve hem.
Stitch down leaving a 3cm/1.2” gap 2cm/08” up from bottom edge on the side you just neatened. Press seam open. Top stitch around opening. This is where your tie will thread through.
Stitch the other side down completely then neaten seam.
Step 7
Stitch together your front & back hem tie pieces. Press seams open. Fold in half and mark the centre.
Step 8
Match the centre of the hem tie up with the centre back of cardi. With right side of tie facing inside of cardi, pin together until you reach the edge of each cardi front and stitch on.
Step 9
Where the tie extends from the edge of cardi, fold the tie in half so that the right sides are facing. Pin together starting from edge of cardi to the end of the tie. Stitch. Trim seam allowance in half and clip corners then turn tie through to the right side. Repeat on other side.
Step 10
Press remaining edge of tie inwards 1cm/0.39”. Pin, slightly overlapping the stitch line on the right side of cardi and top stitch in place.
Step 11
Fold sleeve cuff piece in half width ways. Stitch edges together. Press seam allowance open. Pull the bottom of the seam allowance up to meet the top of the seam allowance, and thread the rest of the tube over itself so that all the seams are on the inside.
Now that your cuff is complete, you need to attach it to the bottom of your sleeve.
With right sides together put the cuff around the circumference of the sleeve opening with the raw edges together. Pin then stitch together. Neaten edges. Press seam allowance toward sleeve.
